Hydrogen (H₂), a trace gas in the atmosphere with indirect impacts on climate and air quality, is gaining great interest due to the potential increase in its emission as a low- or zero-carbon energy source. This work details how the NOAA Global Monitoring Laboratory has implemented the WMO/MPI X2009 H₂ calibration scale. Such efforts are essential for ensuring reliable long-term, large-scale observations of atmospheric H₂.

This study presents a method to enable direct flux measurements of greenhouse gases in existing tall-tower networks by adding a 3D sonic anemometer to each station. With little extra instrumentation, it significantly improves the spatial information density of land-surface exchange and enhances the quantification of temporal sources and sinks of greenhouse gases. This concept is highly relevant for the scientific community of greenhouse gases, and offers a blueprint for bridging scales between atmospheric and ecosystem networks.
